Office #23 - All day Saturday

Barry had left Jeremy and Roxie back at the warehouse so he could at least have open office hours for any family and friends that were visiting. Barry was actually happy to leave because Roxie was forcing everyone to watch the animated version of meta Animal Farm again.

And after 53 times, Barry did not need to see that again.

"You are the science instructor," Okoye said from the doorway. "Tell me why Shuri should waste her time in your class."

Barry wasn’t expecting such a request but based on his conversation with Shuri the other day, he wasn’t surprised.

“Well. Honestly, she’s fucking brilliant. She understands science at a higher level than anyone I’ve met except for Tony Stark. So she probably doesn’t need it,” Barry said with a shrug. “That being said she enjoys the class which should be reason enough. If you take a look at the syllabus so far she’s been turned into a dinosaur, grew wings and flew and has gone on a space walk. Not bad for a fucking high school science class.”

"Turned into a dinosaur," Okoye repeated. "Explain the contingencies for not getting the second in line to the Wakandan throne stuck as a reptile, please."

Barry then went into a five minute lecture on the comic book science that allowed a human to safely transform into a dinosaur and then revert back to being a human.

“-then all the dna becomes inert. Look, I get you don’t know me? But I would never do anything that would put any of these kids in danger. I’ve been doing this shit since I developed motor skills. If you want to pull Shuri from class, I get it. But I think she’ll have her own opinion on that.”

"Oh, Shuri has many opinions," Okoye said a little wryly, "and most of them are extremely well researched. I also know that she gets a little...tunnel-visioned...in the pursuit of science and engineering. I will not pull her from the class, but I would like reassurances that she is safe."

Barry smirked a little when Okoye mentioned “tunnel vision”.

“Ukhuseleko lwentlawulo yakho luya kuhlala luyinto ephambili kum,” he replied seriously. “And maybe I can help with that tunnel vision. Though allowing her to date Wayne might help with that.”

"You speak Xhosa?" Okoye said, stunned. "Most colonizers don't bother."

"I'm not exactly normal," Barry admitted. "But I am serious about Shuri and her interests. I promise you I'll make it worth her while to be in my class."

Okoye inclined her head. "Good. She's very used to being the brightest in the room."
