Brooklyn - Friday Evening FHT

Whether it was by a phone call, carrier pigeon or just plain handwavey goodness, the word got out that there was a Brooklyn in the multi-verse that was in trouble. Lucky enough there were a few good denizens of Fandom who were willing to help.

Coming through the portal right by the Brooklyn Bridge, it was readily apparent that portions of Brooklyn was in chaos. Buildings and people were "glitching" where the images of them shifted colors and shapes. For the buildings this was causing instabilities. For the people it was causing them pain.

And then there were the gremlins. They were now running around Brooklyn doing their biting thing on the populace of Brooklyn which added another layer of chaos to a borough that was already seeing enough weirdness.

Time for you all to big damn heroes, right?

He'd been following right behind, of course. Didn't mean to hover, but. Well. It was Kathy.

He yanked the door open behind her, and-- "Kat! Kat, you okay?"

Kathy blinked several times, trying to sort through the memories and the reality of the situation. Brooklyn wasn't the only thing glitching here today. She looked up at Dante, face the same color as curdled milk, still looking a bit shocky. "D-Dante?" she asked, sounding uncertain. "I'm--We're--"

Brooklyn. They were in Brooklyn, not LA. And it was gremlins, not exes they were fighting.

"In New York," Dante said quietly, his hand settling on her shoulder. "Too cold to be LA, right?"

"That's for damn sure," Kathy said, shaking her head to clear it. "I just--fuck."

She didn't bother explaining. Dante knew. Dante knew her better than anyone else.

"C'mon," Dante said, pulling her gently back out through the door. "Bet they need us somewhere else too."

"But--But--"

But even as she tried to muster up a protest, Kathy let Dante lead her away. It still felt wrong, but she wasn't going to be able to help anybody when her own brain was getting hijacked by bad memories. No point in trying to fight Dante when he was right.

No point in forcing herself when she had a team.

"Barry," she said, instead, paging him over comms. "Send some folks to the hospital. They still need an evac."

She knew Barry was probably picking up a thousand things about her based on her heart rate and blood pressure and the tremor in her voice but--whatever.

And then she looked back up to Dante. "I think I heard something about gremlins invading Coney Island?"

Thank you.

Dante smiled at her. It would've been doofy, if there hadn't been a little worry in there anyway.

"Been a while since I kicked anything around a ferris wheel," he said. "Wanna back me up like a badass?"

"See, and here I was gonna ask you the same thing," Kathy said.

She was going to cry so much later, she could tell. But that was a later problem. A Kathy problem, and right now, she had to be Banzai.

"Whoever bags the most gremlins decides pizza or Broadway?"

"Ohhhhh," Dante said, eyes narrowing. "Now you're on."

And hopefully that'd distract her for a little while.

Hey, crying had already been on the docket!

"Just remember you agreed to this when we're sitting in the first row for Hamilton."

"Can I be drinking?" Dante asked, while totally not idly guiding her away from the hospital, really. "I mean, not that I'm gonna lose."

"Theaters have bars in them, so yeah," Kathy promised. "Overpriced for not much variety, but you can drink through it. Though I bet you'll be into it. It's a cool musical!"

Beat.

"Also, yes you are."

"Nuh uh," Dante said. "I won last time."

He was leaning down for a kiss.

"I let you," Kathy lied, and met him halfway.

"If you fucking horndogs can turn down the hormones a bit we do have a city to save," Barry's voice crackled across the comms, but in an obvious amused manner.

"I'll fucking book you a room to get your jollies off at the Waldorf if someone can get to Coney Island."

Dante pulled back, sighing. "Your friend's really gotta chill the fuck out," he said. "Is he getting laid?"

Dante.

Okay. There was a lot of embarrassing coughs and Barry starting to talk but then just.

"Uuuuuuuh. Right. You guys have the presidential suite tonight. I'm just going to log off now."

Kathy was just going laugh, kissing Dante once more. "Let's go wreck someone's fun at the carnival," she said.

"Sounds like a plan," Dante said, grinning, and pulled away from her.

"Still. Fuckin' imagine thinking this is as hot as we go."

He winked at her, then started walking.

"It barely counts as warming up if both your hands are still outside the clothing," Kathy said, mostly for Barry's benefit.

Mostly.
