Room 316: Wednesday After Classes

Charles Baudelaire once said that genius is nothing more nor less than childhood recaptured at will.

Which is why Barry picked the lock to Elsa's room in order to switch out her bed with one he made yesterday in class.

Specifically a trampoline bed.

Hey, there's totally a method to his madness.

And while Elsa was at work he was being mad in her room. Or something.

Whatever. He was switching Elsa's bed out with a trampoline bed.

She hesitated, torn between embarrassment and defensiveness. "We had... well, we had a place on the floor with a blanket where we slept. That was our bed. Until I became a Hawk. Then the place they found for me to stay had one, but it took me a while to get used to sleeping on it."

"What? Not like we all grew up outside the fiefs, you know?"

Barry took a moment to let that sink in before he nodded. "I keep forgetting there aren't always common cultural backgrounds threads between our fucking mish-mash of interdimensional societies. In mine and apparently in Elsa's, jumping on the bed as a kid was the fucking shit."

Kaylin blinked at him for a minute, trying to parse out whatever it was that he'd said.

"Um... does that mean it was a good thing or a bad thing?"

"It's good," Barry said pulling Elsa's mattress off the bed. "When I'm done here you can try it out if you want."

"The fucking shit," Kaylin mused, more laid back than you'd pretty much ever see her. "I'll have to remember that for things I like."

"DO you think she'd mind if I try it?"

"Beats the shit out of me," Barry replied. "Does she let you use her crap?"

Kaylin loved swearing. (Where it wouldn't get her in too much trouble.) Even more she loved learning new swear words in other languages. And while whatever they spoke here was much like Elantran, she'd never heard these words and these combinations.

"I've never asked to use anything," Kaylin admitted. "So it beats the shit out of me, too."

"Eh. I'm sure she'd be okay with it," Barry said moving the mattress to the hallway. "She seems pretty nice."

"She is really nice," Kaylin agreed. "Kind of nervous about stuff, but really nice."

"Any idea what makes her so nervous?" Barry asked. "Because she seems to be pretty wound up."

"I don't know," Kaylin admitted, "But she does seem to be a worrier, that's for sure. I think stuff must have happened that really shook her up, you know?"
