Room 316: Wednesday After Classes

Charles Baudelaire once said that genius is nothing more nor less than childhood recaptured at will.

Which is why Barry picked the lock to Elsa's room in order to switch out her bed with one he made yesterday in class.

Specifically a trampoline bed.

Hey, there's totally a method to his madness.

And while Elsa was at work he was being mad in her room. Or something.

Whatever. He was switching Elsa's bed out with a trampoline bed.

"Kind of the point of a trampoline," Barry said crossing his arms and smirking. "You know. To bounce."

"Well, yes," Elsa acknowledged, and then crouched down a little to give a slightly more proper jump. She landed it easily enough, coming to a settle after a few more bounces up and down that weren't exactly within her control. "But... Why?"

"To have fun?" Barry offered. "Or... You know. Blow off some steam and get some blood pumping. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain and trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. If you do it on a regular basis it can help with a positive outlook and increase self-esteem."

He gave Elsa a grin.

"Or were we just making small talk?"

Elsa managed to follow about half of that. She was going to think of that as a win, when dealing with Barry.

"Mostly small talk," she admitted. "Jumping on the bed increases self-esteem?"

She remained unconvinced. But she gave another experimental bounce for good measure.

"You have to bounce more than one at a fucking time," Barry said rolling his eyes with amusement. "Want me to join you and show you to do it?"

This couldn't possibly end well!

"... You might have to. I have no idea what I'm doing."

"Okey-fucking-dokey," Barry said hopping onto the trampoline with a small jump. "First? You jump. Multiple times and build up some momentum."

As he said this his actions mirrored his words. Sorry if that causes you some turbulence over there Elsa.

You know. A little. Elsa's eyes widened and she spread her arms a bit for balance.

"We want momentum?"

Someone was going to die or get turned into an ice block. She could see it now.

"We'll start small," Barry said slowing down with slow small jumps. "Try and match my rhythm."

Okay... Small, Elsa could do. Small seemed saner, at least, and she could cut and run if she felt as though this was getting out of hand.

Watching Barry warily, she started to take little hops in time with his.

"Like this?"

"Good!" Barry said encouragingly. "Now when you feel comfortable you can either jump higher or faster."

And because he's a show off Barry did a quick spin in place during one jump.

"And then you can fucking play around with it."

"That's assuming, of course, that I'm going to start feeling comfortable."

She was still being difficult. What Barry was doing looked like fun, actually, and after a few more bounces, Elsa attempted a spin of her own, her skirts twirling out around her as she did so.

"Look at you!" Barry teased, "Putting on all the fancy moves! Now try this. It's easy."

Barry then did a jump, bounced off his butt and then back to his feet.

Elsa had to cartwheel her arms a little when Barry did his butt-bump. Which, really, was one way to learn about the nefarious things trampolines did when they had more than one person on them at once, wasn't it?

"What, just... fall and bounce up like that?"

He really was asking for her skirt to fly up, wasn't he? Not that Elsa was thinking that as she jumped a few more times, and then gave it a try of her own, nearly pitching forward once she was up on her feet again. Nearly.

And laughing. Or, well, attempting to hold back a fit of giggles. What in the world was she doing?

"Fucking-A!" Barry laughed. "Now do a backflip!"

He's joking, Elsa. Joking.

"And that would cause my skirt to fly up," Elsa laughed, before dropping down to do another butt-bounce. If anyone back home knew the future queen of Arendelle was bouncing up and down on what should have been her bed, they'd be having fits! "I think I'll pass on any flipping today, Barry."

"Well at least you learned the beginnings of it," Barry said doing a quick hop off the bed and onto the floor. "Now do you see what you've been missing?"

"I'm beginning to get an idea of it," Elsa decided, this time not bothering to get back up to her feet, so that she bounced a few times on her behind and then came to settle cross-legged on the trampoline. "I would never be able to get away with this back home. But here... here, I suppose it's okay."

Barry frowned for a second before settling himself down in a nearby chair. "Can I ask you a question? What's going on back home that won't let you have a little fucking fun?"

Elsa took a moment to consider that question, and then another moment still just to figure out how to answer it.

"There are a lot of things," she admitted. "I suppose the easiest one to begin explaining things with would be the fact that I'm the heir to Arendelle's throne. I've had certain expectations on me since I was born."

That was the easy one. That was the easy one. 'By the way, I'm a princess.'

Elsa's definition of 'easy' maybe needed a little work.

"No shit? You wear a crown an all that?" Barry said with a grin. "Okay. I can understand that. Family obligations can always be a pain in the fucking ass. But if that's the easiest, I'd hate to see what the hardest part is."

"Well, I will wear a crown. I haven't really come of age, yet. My coronation won't be for another couple of years," Elsa explained, sounding relieved at his reaction.

... While at the same time not actually addressing that second part at all. Hardest part? There was no hardest part, that must have been Barry's imagination. Yes. Must have been.

"So does that mean you're going to be the absolute fucking ruler of your country?" Barry said tilting his head. "Or is this just a figurehead thing?"

"Absolute... ruler."

Elsa was not saying that other word, Barry.

"You're going to turn around and tell me that the Queen gets to decide who can and can't jump on the bed, aren't you?"

"Fuck no," Barry said shaking his head. "You're what... seventeen? And you've got to run an entire country in a few years? I get it. You've got people to look out for and if you make a mistake they might take the brunt of that decision."

Barry could relate to that. Maybe a little too much. Not the whole royalty thing but his friends had all been walloped at one point by Barry's experiments.

"That shit isn't easy to live with. On the other hand it doesn't mean you can't close the doors to your bedroom and tell all your servants to fuck off for a bit because their royal majesty needs to jump on the bed."
