Tuesday All Day: Office Hours

You know what's distracting? Working in a lab where most of the weapons that Barry had designed that looked like.... stuff.

And for some reason that seemed to distract Barry more than usual, so instead he decided to actually use his office at school and actually have office hours.

So after cleaning off the large amount of dust in the room, Barry settled down to review some of the work that his students had done yesterday in class.

"Uh. What the actual fuck? Sexy dinosaurs?"

Troy is a very disturbing individual.

Juillenne was just innocently walking down the hall, as one does, when she heard that exclamation.

"... Okay, I have to know," she said, poking her head in the doorway. "What's a dinosaur, and why is the prospect of a sexy one so distressing?"

Look, Barry, if you didn't want to be interrupted by some random teenager who wasn't one of your students, you shouldn't have left the door open.

Barry paused... not because his usual language attracted a student but there were some boundaries he wasn't going to cross as a teacher.

"Okay, I'll make you a deal. I'll show you what a dinosaur is but the other part is just an essay I don't think anyone should be reading," Barry replied. "This weeks seems to have gotten into some people's heads more than others."

Damn it Troy.

He immediately pulled out his tablet and began pulling up holographic representations of dinosaurs. "Dinosaurs were on this planet eons ago and died out. Other than time travel and genetic structure we only have fossilized bones to give us an idea of how they lived. They were pretty colossal in size in some cases."

Jules hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary herself, but then, her romantic life was currently... kind of complicated.

Which wasn't to say that romance and sex were always connected, it certainly was possible to have one without the other, but for Jules, they absolutely were intertwined.

"Interesting," she said, settling down in a chair and propping her crutch up against it, Camden flopping down at her feet. "I don't believe my world ever had anything like that."

"But apparently you have mountain lions as companions," Barry noted with some amusement.

He eyed the crutch a moment or two and paused before diving into the next topic.

"I hope you don't mind me asking something personal... but what happened to your leg?"

Jules smiled, and in that smile just for a moment Barry might glimpse the Legion Queen before it was gone and Jules was just Jules, (relatively) ordinary teenage girl again.

"Got in a fight," she explained. "I won," she added, after a beat. Yes, Barry, she'd lost a limb and had won the fight. Draw your own conclusions about what happened to the other party.

"There's a shitty cliche about seeing the other guy but I'll skip it as you're still alive," he replied. He paused again. "Do mind if I take a look at your leg? I might be able to do something about it."

Jules narrowed her eyes a little suspiciously.

"'Do something about it'?" she echoed. "Are you a healer?" She didn't see how even an exceptionally talented healer could 'do something' about a missing limb, though.

"Kind of," Barry said pulling pulling up some diagrams. "I'm a scientist and pretty good at it. Enough that I have a couple of options if you are interested."

He then pulled up a holographic image of the leg he originally designed for John Silver.

"It's built using a new carbon fiber polymer I developed. It contracts and relaxes like a normal muscle does so it mimics normal movement more than a typical leg. See this strap here? It not only fastens to your leg but it relays muscle movement from your leg and signals from your brain. You'll be able to feel what the leg feels. Hot. Cold. Wet. Dry. Wool sock. Pebble in your shoe. Whatever. It's weatherproof, waterproof and dishwasher safe so cleanup will be a snap."

Then he smirked. "Failing that I could grow you a new leg from your DNA."

"I don't think growing a new one would be a good idea," Jules admitted. As tempting as it sounded. And then there was also the question of... "Why?"

Not to mention what the hell was a carbon polymer fiber. But we'll start with why he'd do this.

Barry smirked. “So you don’t have to walk with a fucking crutch?”

He snorted in amusement. “Look, the one thing I learned from this place when I was a student here (which was back in the fucking dark ages for you kids) was that science needs to help people. I saw plenty of fucking instances where science went wrong and did some fucked up shit. So. If I can make you fucking walk better?”

He shrugged.

“World might be a better place.”

"I hope you can excuse me being a little skeptical considering we just met all of five minutes ago," Juillenne pointed out.

Which wasn't a no!

"Hey, I'm not offended," Barry said leaning back with a smile and a shrug. "But if you have concerns? Track down John Silver in town. He had his leg amputated below the knee before he came there, so I made a prothesis for him. I can understand being skeptical so talk to him first if you have any reservations."

"Yeah, okay," Jules nodded. "Maybe I'll do that. I'll let you know."
