The walk home from Caritas last night was very nice. Summer had spent the first part of the evening in the warehouse poking around at various experiments and projects asking questions. Which had led to chatting and then at one point Barry realized he was just talking to himself as Summer had fallen asleep on the couch.
Making sure she had a nice comfy blanket on her to keep her warm, Barry then went to work.
Barry had been up all night as usual, working on yet another project which was somewhat derailed when he noticed other abnormalities that had been popping up. And it appeared to have gremlin involvement.
Which of course was just fantastic news.
"Rube, do another round of analysis on the spandex carbon fiber polymer taking into account bio-electric charges as well as obfuscation of the visual light spectrum," he said quietly to his AI so as not to wake the girl who had fallen asleep. "And then forward all the gremlin analysis to the mayor's office via fax.
Jesse would be thrilled to have another 100 fax pages to read.

She could only revel so long until the sound of that fax machine got a little intrusive in her whole attempts to keep pretending to be a sleep so she could just have a moment.
So she pushed herself up, taking a second to try and smooth out her hair which was probably a mess and re-do the ponytail, before looking around to find where Barry actually was.
Couldn't keep the grin off her face to save her life once she did.
"Hey."

Yeah. Despite everything he was grinning too,
"I just had some baked goods from J'GOB delivered," he said nodding over at one of the tables. "And coffee from the Perk too. Sleep well?"

Date: 2020-10-01 02:02 pm (UTC)Well. Barry was making some assumptions.
"Let's just say I'm expecting one of my students to show up asking for some help."
If Summer were to look at the screen she'd probably notice what appeared to be a onsie with mask in red and blue colors.
Because plot.
"I'm still working on the portal gun. Just needs some fine tuning but any data you have on Sev's dimension would be incredibly helpful."

Date: 2020-10-01 02:19 pm (UTC)But, yeah, it didn't take long at all to confirm that coffee would be needed to deal with any of this stuff, and her own brain was already distracted by the smell of it.
"It's been a busy week," she pointed out, pulling away a little, but lingering to give him a brief massage of his shoulders before the lure of the coffee had fully overtaken her. "And trust me, I have a ton. I've been trying to calculate the coordinantes based on a bunch of crap pulled from Portalocity and Grampa Rick's dimension database, but it's starting to make me go cross-eyed just looking at it anymore. I was waiting for a good chance to dump it on you, see if you could at least run an algorithm or something on it."
With hopefully much better results than the last algorithm...

Date: 2020-10-01 02:50 pm (UTC)He's seen the looks you have when you talk about your GFFA friends Summer.
He stood up and went over on the other side of the table to grab a Danish and to start to boil some water for tea. "If there's anything I can do to fucking help with that I can create a small communications array once she gets established over there to facilitate that."
He smiled at her cradling of the coffee. "Thanks for staying over last night. It was... really fucking nice actually. I haven't had someone over in a while."

Date: 2020-10-01 03:13 pm (UTC)"It definitely won't hurt," she said, "especially if things go badly for her out there, but I think she's going to be alright..."
And now all her insides were going to go back to feeling all warm again, in ways that had nothing to do with the coffee. "Sorry I fell asleep." She didn't sound very sorry. "But you're right. It was really fucking nice..."
She didn't want to say that maybe they should do this more often, but...she really wanted to say that maybe they should do this more often.

Date: 2020-10-01 03:32 pm (UTC)His brain seldom let him stop.
"You're more than welcome to come by here anytime, really. Or stay overnight. If you wanted," he said a little carefully just because he wasn't sure if that would spook her or not.
Because of course he can't read Summer's thoughts. Or her narrative.

Date: 2020-10-01 04:39 pm (UTC)"And maybe I might," she said, with a small grin that just might seal the deal, because now you might never fucking get rid of her, Barry, and you had no one to blame but yourself. "Definitely less cat hair than my place, anyway."
Especially now that she was going to have two of them...

Date: 2020-10-01 04:55 pm (UTC)Just fine, actually.
"Oh, so the lack cat hair is the only reason you'd stay over night?" Barry teased. "See, I might have to have this discussion with Pancakes. I believe she'd be appalled."
Okay, he didn't have a cat to English translator but now that was on the list.

"By the way," he said pointing to a small robotic arm with a laser pointer attached to the end. (It was gathering dust on a high shelf in the warehouse. "I do have that available for Pancakes when you want it."

Date: 2020-10-01 07:04 pm (UTC)"Aaaand we maybe might need a second one," Summer ventured, almost as if she afraid she should even mention it, like at this point it would be a deal breaker, "because guess who's taking Seivarden's cat once she heads back to Radch space..."

Date: 2020-10-01 07:37 pm (UTC)Well, second step. Getting Pancakes at all was sort of the first step, and that had been a whole thing.
"Oh, no," she said confidently. "Pancakes and Issa are totally cat besties already, they've had play dates and everything, and if either of them act up, I can just threaten to take them over to Furnado, and neither of them wants that."

Date: 2020-10-01 07:41 pm (UTC)As if another cat was going to affect Barry’s opinion of Summer.
Her acting like Madonna? That’s another story.
“Yeah. Like you’d fucking give up the cats,” Barry joked. “They would be your pets. Isn’t that family?”
no subject
Date: 2020-10-01 07:55 pm (UTC)But she would absolutely crush it.
His choice of words made Summer's grin go slightly wry. She treated her cat way better than family.
"Yeah, but," she said, "a few days in there just to scare 'em straight or whatever probably wouldn't hurt them any."

Date: 2020-10-01 08:21 pm (UTC)The cat doesn't take care of motherfucking bees.
"Damn!" Barry said laughing. "That's some motherfucking tough love for some four legged creatures. Shit, remind me to stay on your good side."

... look, it was cathartic.

This is why we need to do an update!
