Brooklyn - Friday Evening FHT

Whether it was by a phone call, carrier pigeon or just plain handwavey goodness, the word got out that there was a Brooklyn in the multi-verse that was in trouble. Lucky enough there were a few good denizens of Fandom who were willing to help.

Coming through the portal right by the Brooklyn Bridge, it was readily apparent that portions of Brooklyn was in chaos. Buildings and people were "glitching" where the images of them shifted colors and shapes. For the buildings this was causing instabilities. For the people it was causing them pain.

And then there were the gremlins. They were now running around Brooklyn doing their biting thing on the populace of Brooklyn which added another layer of chaos to a borough that was already seeing enough weirdness.

Time for you all to big damn heroes, right?

The Ending

It started as slow rumble like an earthquake. All the buildings in Brooklyn began to light up and shimmer like a kaleidoscope burning with energy. Each one of the gremlins that were out and about Brooklyn all began to scream as they were one by one pulled away along with the energy, some of them melting away as they did.

And then in a flash it washed across the entire city as it was sucked into one building: Fisk Tower.



And then everything went dark. For ten seconds everything stayed that way until there was a explosion at the top of Fisk tower and then-



The lights flickered on one by one with Brooklyn's power and everything there coming back to normal.

Cheers erupted all across Brooklyn, their home now safe from the weirdness that had been going on all week.

Back in Fandom the mysterious portals all began to fade and the heightened gremlin activity began to subside to their mere occasional ridiculous levels.

No doubt the police department would start getting calls about bees any time soon.

There was one new figure in the skyline in a black and red costume that some of the populace started shouting for. Apparently everyone was calling him the "New Spider-Man".

Trying to show off a little he did a backflip in mid-air only to get hit in the head by one of Barry's drones.

He managed to recover a little and land on his feet insstead of his head.

"Hey everyone!" Spider-Man said landing near the portal that Barry had created back to Fandom. "Thanks for coming!"

Steve tossed him a little salute. "Well, Brooklyn."

Okay, so the shield and the costume immediately identified the man as that Captain America he had been told about.

But it was the voice that let Miles know who it was.

“Captain,” Miles said returning the salute with a sincere rapping of his fist to his chest. “It’s good to know you can always count on someone from your hometown. Thank you.”

“Oh. That’s not good,” Miles said soberly. “There might be riot. I guess they could always go to that new place called Foam Party.”

"Great job!" Did you want a victory hug, Miles? Because a spider gremlin goo covered Adora was about to try and give you one.

After the week Miles just had, the sight of his 8 foot tall roommate was exactly what he needed. Goo covered or not.

“She-Ra!”

Because code names are important in public.

He probably could get his arms around her but that hug was getting returned. “I wasn’t sure if you were going home or not,” he said sounding relieved. “I know it’s hard for you but I’m so glad you stuck around.”

Adora still didn't get the point of code names, but she'd at least been paying enough attention not to use Miles's real one.

"I still miss them, but it's a lot better now we know where each other are." Also Miles was probably going to get sick of the hour she was spending talking to Catra and the others on the datapad each night. "It's different when you have a choice about it.

"And I mean it about the great job, you're doing a lot better than I did when I first got my powers."

Like, seriously, it had been a rough beginning.

There were two porgs back in Fandom who would disagree with that, Adora.

“Yeah, well. It’s been a week and a huge learning curve,” Miles admitted. “And I’ve been incredibly lucky. But I’m alive at least so that’s something.”

No but the porgs will probably be giving Miles dirty looks for a while.

Miles looked around his hometown and took what Adora said to heart. “I guess. The next few weeks are going to be interesting to say the least.”k

Dante tossed him a jaunty salute Captain America definitely wouldn't approve of, and a grin. "Happy to help," he called. "Now remember to look both ways before showing off!"

So this was the kid Barry had been talking about. Banzai hung back with Dante while he greeted the people he knew, and eventually wandered over to say hello.

"Hey, Spider-Man," she said, thinking of the several she'd met on the island. "Banzai, formerly of Fandom High. Nice to meet you."

“Oh, um... hi!” He said with cheerful awkwardness. “I didn’t think so many people from Fandom would show up. Thank you for saving my home. I can tell you how much that means to me.”

"I get it," she said quietly. "I lost mine. Wasn't gonna sit back and let that happen to someone else." A quick flash of a smile. "Especially not to something like gremlins."

“Man, up until this week I thought people were just playing a prank on me!” He said looking around his hometown. “I didn’t think they’d show up here.”

"It's not your fault," Kathy said quietly. "It's something you're gonna have to get used to saying and hearing in this gig. And it's easier to say than to hear, easier to hear than to feel. Because soon everything starts to feel like your fault."

She gave him a bleak smile. "Trust me."

Spider-Man let out a long sigh of relief. Just hearing those words took a load of weight off his shoulders. "Thank you. I needed to hear that."

"You'll need to hear it a lot more," Kathy said quietly. "Look...I went through something very similar to what you are, I think."

Her smile was sad and her eyes had that deep and abiding grief that spoke of loss. "If you ever wanna talk to someone who gets it - the good parts and the bad, the highs and the lows, the feeling of being out in a homemade costume before Barry looked at you and sighed and made something better, gimme a call? I can be on the island within the hour - less if it's an emergency."

Her next smile is a little firmer. "I promise to tell you if your plan is tactically stupid, but to never tell you that wanting to do something is stupid."

Spider-Man just sort of stood there as Kathy began to talk and the past week suddenly caught up to him. “I-“

He stopped there for a moment, his voice already choked up with emotion.

“I’m going to take you up on that,” he said feeling like he was pushing through the words. “A week ago I was just a normal kid. It’s been a lot to take in.”

"Yeah," she says. "I get it. But hey. You did good. Brooklyn is okay, the gremlins are gone, your suite is way cooler than I was wearing my first week out...You've got skills, Spider-Man."

Miles laughed. “Yeah. My first costume was a Halloween costume of the original Spider-Man. It didn’t fit and was pretty bad. This costume was made by Mr. Ween. I just spray painted it to give it a little more style.”
