Brooklyn - Friday Evening FHT

Whether it was by a phone call, carrier pigeon or just plain handwavey goodness, the word got out that there was a Brooklyn in the multi-verse that was in trouble. Lucky enough there were a few good denizens of Fandom who were willing to help.

Coming through the portal right by the Brooklyn Bridge, it was readily apparent that portions of Brooklyn was in chaos. Buildings and people were "glitching" where the images of them shifted colors and shapes. For the buildings this was causing instabilities. For the people it was causing them pain.

And then there were the gremlins. They were now running around Brooklyn doing their biting thing on the populace of Brooklyn which added another layer of chaos to a borough that was already seeing enough weirdness.

Time for you all to big damn heroes, right?

"Oh, that's cool!" Starlight was sincerely impressed. "Like - okay, this is going to sound dumb so don't be offended, but it sounds like...deadly parkour?"

She would love to be able to bounce away after blasting someone. How handy!

Banzai didn't look offended; if anything, she smiled a bit and nodded. "You should have seem me my first few nights out, in a handmade costume with weapons I made out of gymnastic equipment. I...tried."

"The trying is the important part," Starlight told her, grinning. "I always love meeting Supes who started out with homemade costumes." She'd never gotten the chance to strike out on her own as a teenager, since she'd been put right into the pageant circuit and a track to a team. "Was that when you went to the school? And patrolled Baltimore?"

Banzai's powers probably wouldn't attract as much attention in a non-Supe world as her own, granted, but it was at least yet another perspective on the whole patrolling thing.

"Exactly," Banzai said. "Spent my days in class, my evenings in homework, and then at night I'd head over the Causeway to patrol. It was all pretty low-level stuff. You know, stop muggings, drug deals, that kinda thing. I did get into a one-woman war with the...Ukrainian?...mafia? I think?"

She paused to remember and then nodded. "Yeah, whatshisface went by the Butcher of Kiev. So yeah, the Ukrainians. I helped spike their plans to expand operations here, but that was pretty much the biggest thing I was involved with on this coast."

"That's a lot of what I did back in Des Moines," Starlight replied, nodding along. "Muggings, minor robberies, creepy guys being creepy - the whole shebang. We don't have any kind of a mafia out that way, though, so...that's something to look out for."

She almost called it 'fun,' but that seemed a little inappropriate.

"Are you working out on the west coast now?" she checked, curious. She had always figured California Supes were both lucky and not, since they didn't have to contend with weather as much - but then, neither did the criminals.

"Nah," Kathy said with a shake of her head and a smile that didn't reach her eyes. "I'm a few actually only about a ninety minute ride into Connecticut these days. And a dimension or so over."

She nods over to Dante. "His hometown is nicer than mine."

Demon-infested-alternate-Bridgeport beat out post-zombocalypse-LA. Mostly.

Starlight smiled at that - she'd noticed the way Dante and Banzai were intertwined a moment ago, and it had reminded her of how fun it could be to do this stuff with a boyfriend. Things with Drummer Boy hadn't exactly ended...great, but she still missed the partnership of it all, sometimes.

"There's a lot of that dimensional stuff going on around here," she replied with a rueful chuckle. "This is where I ask if you've ever heard of Homelander or The Seven, and you probably say no, right?" It was worth a shot - she'd never heard of a Banzai, but that didn't mean anything considering just how many Supes were out there, and that Starlight herself mostly knew the Midwest ones.

Kathy shook her head. "Haven't, sorry," she said. "In my world, superheroes had only been around for the last few years before I--left. Saint--The Might Dragon was the first recorded superhero and he showed up only a year or so before I left for Fandom."

"Worth a shot," Starlight said lightly, sighing. "We've had superheroes for years where I'm from, so it's really weird for me to hear about worlds where that's not the case."

Again, what did they watch on TV?

"But it's - normal, even if it's new?" she checked. "Just the presence of heroes where you're from?"

There was a slight pause before Kathy answered, as if she were trying to figure out the best wording for it. "In LA these days, yeah. Superheroes are just kinda part of everyday life now. St. George, Cerberus, Stealth, Gorgon, Legion..." Her eye twitched slightly as she said the last name, "...they're doing what they can to keep the population safe."
