This Barry. If you're calling about that mess of a portal at the end of the hallway that looks like a glowing woman's you-know-what, I'm fucking working on it, okay? Seriously, fuck off. Otherwise leave a message.
No doubt Rick was rolling his eyes. Then again when wasn't he?
Keep me in the loop. I want to know what kind of shitshow this turns into. Don't worry about Pancakes. I'll show your picture every day and explain why you abandoned her to watch her crazy great grandfather lose his shit.
And since the shift of power had placed Jerry in the trunk right behind Summer, it actually positioned him in a way that, peering over the back seat amidst the luggage, he could see over Summer's shoulder to her phone perfectly.
Which he didn't mean to do! It just sort of happened! But now that it couldn't be avoided, how could he turn down the potential to open a door of communication to his daughter who was increasingly drifting away from him more and more every day? That's what this whole trip was about, to bring them all together, wasn't it?
"So," he ventured, "who're you texting, sweetie? Is that Barry? Everything still good between you two after, well, after everything with dinner that one time?"
"Ohmygod! Dad!" If there was anything that could actually make Summer's phone disappear again, it was realizing her dad was in prime weirdo creepy eavesdropping real estate right now. "Can you maybe not turn this into a whole 'nother conversation to have with our therapist right now? God!"
"Just trying to make conversation," Jerry poured slightly. "We barely even see you anymore outside of therapy...how're things with the store?"
"Ohmygod. We are going to have new aunts and/or uncles--"
"No, you won't, Summer!" Rick chimed in just for the record.

She ignored it, of course.
"--no one cares, Dad."
